Selsey boss Daren Pearce wants his team to rediscover their form with a home league clash against Billingshurst on Saturday.

The Blues have had an up-and-down start to the season and lost 4-0 at Romsey in the FA Vase on Saturday.

Pearce said: “We were a little disappointed as we started the game well.Although we went behind and went in 1-0 down at the break, we came out in the second half and thought we’d levelled only for it to be disallowed.

“This changed the game and knocked us a bit and then we got caught pushing for the equaliser for their second.

“After that we just tried to get back into the game only to be punished again. So a disappointing day.

“Now we need to get back to basics on Saturday.”

Roffey 2 Midhurst 4

Midhurst boss Andy Ewen was pleased to see his side record a second straight win when they went to Roffey.

“It was pleasing to back up last week’s win at Seaford with a dominant opening 45 minutes to kill off Roffey,” Ewen said.

“Kieran Carter was provider for our opening two goals. First Marcus Bedford guided his header into the top corner then Lewis Hyde doubled our lead with a cool header into the corner.

“Harry Giles blazed over before he calmly fired home with his left foot.

“We started the second half slowly and Roffey had a few half chances before they pulled a goal back, which was down to us not dealing with a simple ball into our box.

“This gave us a wake up and Bedford restored our three-goal advantage.

“After two defeats we’ve bounced back well and it’s important we maintain this with two home games on the trot with Arundel and Oakwood visiting.”

The Stags hope Robbie Tambling will be fit to return against Arundel and Jake Slater will complete his ban and be back for Oakwood.

Bosham 1 Charlwood 3

SCFL division two

A defeat to the league newcomers left the Rpbins still looking for their first win.

On the quarter-hour Jamie Liddell’s overhead kick fell to Steve Payne, who fired past a stranded Bosham keeper Jack Hickman.

Bosham levelled right on half-time as Josh Mines found himself in space outside the box and unleashed an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Charlwood eased back in front with 20 minutes left as Liddell outran defenders and then bullied his way past Hickman to score from a tight angle.

A few minutes later Ben Herdman sealed the deal for the league newbies.

It’s a new start for Sidlesham - in a different league and at a new ground. After problems with the parish council meant they could not carry on playing SCFL football at the Selsey Road Rec last season, Steve Bailey’s team are now in the West Sussex League’s Championship south division.

They started the season with a 3-2 home win over Southbourne. The visitors started well but Lewis Tribe, making his Sids debut in goal, was largely untroubled.

Sids took the lead when MoM Joe Gromett was brought down in the box, and the penalty was dispatched by skipper Alfie Bunker.

A nice passage of football from Southbourne resulted in an equaliser, a ferocious strike into the top corner.

Sids retook the lead midway through the half, a long throw routine finished superbly by Gromett.

A long clearance from Southbourne’s keeper eluded everyone except a sharp forward who made it 2-2. Again Sids rallied and were rewarded when Jono Tallent squeezed the ball home to make amends for a glaring miss just minutes earlier.

Tallent was sin-binned for dissent leaving Sids to defend for their lives.

Boss Bailey said: “Three points on the opening day is always a big lift for any team but we will have to up our game if we’re to push for promotion.”

In a competitive match Petworth started their season with a good away win at Watersfield.

Petworth took the lead from a set-piece – after a good delivery from Jaysi Wells a home defender flicked the ball on into his own net.

The home side equalised, breaking from a Petworth corner to capitalise on a defensive mix-up to round the keeper and slot home.

Midway through the second half, Aaron Carter finished off a good move to secure the points for Petworth with a good finish through the keeper’s legs.

Tony Scutt almost added a third but struck a post.

Former Sidlesham goalkeeper Jordon Thompson, ex-Predators star Josh Lauder and ex-Unicorn centre half James Waterhouse all started.

Colts were soon 2-0 upthrough Zalatu and captain Peter Beadle. Whyke striker Nathan Tucker pulled a goal back before an own goal restored Colts’ two-goal advantage.

On the half hour Whyke were reduced to ten men as Stanley received a second yellow for kicking the ball away after being denied a throw-in.

Colts scored a fourth against the run of the second half play. Sub Matthew Bunn, making his Colts league debut, finished off a flowing move.

Whyke scored a penalty but Colts restored the three-goal lead through substitute Figas.
