Young Selsey coach takes award hopes to the Max

A Selsey coach features in the shortlist for recognition at the tenth Sussex Sports Awards.

Max Wiseman, 17, has been shortlisted for the Sussex Sport magazine young coach of the year award for his work at Chichester District Council.

In 2011, the Sussex FA gave him the FA young leader and volunteer award at the FA Community Awards.

After this he was asked to go to Hereford to represent the Sussex FA at a national youth training camp, run by the FA for the top 100 youth coaches in the country.

Wiseman was later awarded a scholarship by Sussex FA and the FA helped him do his level-two coaching course, which involved having a professional football coach as a mentor.

He will discover if he is a Sussex Sports Awards winner at the ceremony to be held at the Hilton Metropole, Brighton, on Friday, November 23.

Aged just 17 and studying full-time at Chichester College, Wiseman demonstrates a consistent level of commitment and enthusiasm to coaching and the teams he trains.

The tenth anniversary of the Sussex Sports Awards – hosted by Active Sussex - will capture the excitement of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and recognise the outstanding achievements of individuals and clubs from Sussex.

There is a category for every sporting contribution, from the BBC Unsung Hero award for those working diligently behind the scenes in your local sports clubs, to Sussex’s Freedom Leisure Sports Personality of the Year for the country’s elite athletes, including our Olympic and Paralympic performers.

BBC Sussex presenter Danny Pike will co-host the awards with Olympic bronze medallist, cancer survivor and BBC voice of swimming Steve Parry, who will provide inspirational tales of his journey to sporting success.

Sadie Mason, Active Sussex Chief Executive said: “The 2012 Sussex Sports Awards is one of the most significant yet and gives us many reasons to celebrate.
