Youth football: Losing? That's so 2010 for this lot...

Chichester City Youth under-tens have just won B division of the Arun & Chichester Youth Football League, giving them back to back promotions following their winning of C division a year ago.

Remarkably during the course of these two seasons they have remained unbeaten – a run so far of 36 competitive league matches.

East Preston 3 Predators 4

From the kick-off Predators struggled against the speed and physical approach of East Preston.

They were upset the referee failed to take any action over a two-footed tackle which left full-back Fabian Koszalko unable to take any further part.

East Preston took the lead as the referee over-ruled the linesman’s flag and then added a second from a counter-attack.

Just before half-time Jordan Smith gave them a lifeline with a tremendous shot from the edge of the area.

Predators regrouped and began to assert themselves and it was no surprise when Connor McCabe equalised with another long-range effort.

But it wasn’t long before Chichester took control and a free-kick enabled them to take the lead. Chichester scored another two goals but Predators kept battling and their persistence paid off with Hillier scoring a great goal from well outside the area.

Predators started the second half with a different attitude and Chichester realised they had to dig in to keep the lead.

Yellow cards were shown to both sides and Predators went down to ten after losing a player to a red. A goal by Rodway gave Predators a lift but it was not enough.

Predators man of the match was Hillier.

Pagham Youth 3 Worthing United Yth 0

This was a hard-fought victory as nine-man Worthing made Pagham work all the way.

Worthing played with a seven-man defence to stifle Pagham and try to get something on the counter-attack.

They kept Pagham at bay until just before half-time when Curtis Poole’s shot was deflected past the stand-in Worthing keeper.

Worthing nearly equalised when a well-struck free-kick from just outside the area was brilliantly saved by Ryan Carter.

Pagham responded immediately and Jack Barnes got Pagham’s second from Poole’s flick-on after Charles Richardson’s long ball into the area.

Pagham’s third came just before full-time when Rory Wood added the final touch in a goalmouth scramble. PAGHAM: Carter, C Richardson, W Richardson, Gosbee, Taunton, Barnes, Hurford, Poole, Game, Lane, Vincent, Wood, Chalaye.

Hawks Youth 5 Pagham Colts 0

How football and players can suddenly change from one game to another - this was a manager’s nightmare as the team just didn’t perform.

The effort of the previous match disappeared as Hawks had the game won by half-time leading 4-0.
