Goodwood's Eddie is ready for one of golf's top jobs

Eddie Bullock, a non-executive director of the Goodwood resort, was one of the first to make the historic transition from pro-shop to full-time club management.

He has now reached a new chapter in his career as he takes over as captain of the Professional Golfers’ Association for 2011 to 2013. Previous holders of the office include James Braid, JH Taylor, Harry Vardon, Henry Cotton, Max Faulkner and Peter Alliss, who all served an organisation with 7,500 members.

Bullock began his career in 1971 as an assistant pro at Roundhay Golf Club in Leeds and in 1977 became a full pro at Bedford & County Club before taking over as general manager there.

As MD of Woburn Golf Club, one of the best-known tournament venues in the world, he controlled the administration of three championship courses rated among the 100 best in the UK.

He helped run major tournaments including the British Masters and the European Seniors Masters.

He was instrumental in bringing the English PGA Championship to Goodwood last year and is advising the club on golfing developments.

Sandy Jones, chief executive of the PGA, said: “Eddie brings wide and valued experience from not only golf but associated business skills from the golf world.”

As PGA captain, his duties will involve attending major championships including April’s US Masters in Augusta and the 2012 Ryder Cup in Medinah, Illinois.
