In spite of losing his winning six-race unbeaten streak, Baker felt it no disgrace to lose out to Kenyan Williard Chinhanhu, who won the national 10k road race championships and is now based at Poole, Dorset.

Beating his previous best by nearly ten seconds, Baker crossed the line at 25min 5sec, a PB and new club record.

This sets him up for the winter season, in which his first test comes in the Sussex cross country relay championships at Goodwood on Saturday, October 3, when top Sussex runners will test their early-season form.
