Home teams beat weather and get better of the visitors

The scene at the Regis Oval on Friday didn’t look like it offered much chance of any action the following day.

But it is a very fast-draining area and the some hard work meant it was fit for play.

Batting first, Eastbourne faltered early on as two wickets from Sam Adams and one from Andrew Grieg punched a hole in the top order.

A counter-attack from Delray Rawlins threatened to change the course of the game, but the introduction of Graham Bush saw Bognor tear through the away side.

Bush finished with figures of five for 31, with little resistance from the Eastbourne batsmen.

A late two-wicket burst from Joe Ashmore finished the innings, with the away side out for 97.

In response, Bognor lost Max Ashmore early, but a combination of Mike Harris’ 29 not out and captain Zayne Bux’s rapid 59 not out saw Bognor home to their target and a nine-wicket win.

Middleton v Three Bridges

Division two

Torrential rain on Friday meant play on Saturday was very much in the balance overnight, but an early start by the grounds team meant the game could start on time.

Three Bridges won their seventh successive toss of the season and chose to bat first.

A solid if somewhat slow start saw them reach 46 before Jamie Thompson removed opener Milo Price caught at slip by Patrick Colvin for 17 in his second over. He bowled Ian Church with the very next ball and Three Bridges were suddenly on the back foot at 46 for two.

Opener Conor Golding battled on, making a 91-ball 38, before with the score on 63 he was well run out by Matt Cooke, following through in his bowling stride to remove the opener with a direct hit.

Victor Davies (45) and skipper Tom Blandford (29) were the only two other players to make double figures as Bridges ended 155 all out. Middleton took the final wicket off the last ball of the innings to secure maximum bowling points. Craig Fowle bowling a spell of four for 47 in 20 overs.

Three Bridges took to the field in determined manner and had early success with the opening bowlers picking up a wicket apiece to remove Middleton openers Will Affleck and Will Burrows, both lbw.

Middleton were one for two but Sean Heather and Ben Ferbrache steadied the innings, but when Heather was dismissed for 21 with the score on 38 there was still plenty to be done.

Ferbrache was joined by Ben Hansford and the pair worked well together in a partnership of 107, with Hansford next out for 68 an innings which included nine fours and four sixes off just 39 balls.

Ferbrache took his side to victory, ending 63 not out.
