An emphatic win by nine wickets in Aldwick’s opening West Sussex Invitation League division three fixture was a perfect way to start their 2014 campaign and bodes well for the season ahead.
Batting first, Barns Green could only post a final total 114 for eight from their 49 overs.
The visitors did use up all their overs but with first spells like Ollie Smith’s - whose seven overs producing six maidens and just three runs for one wicket - they found it hard-going.
Smith finished with two for 21 and the other main wicket-takers were Alex cooper (2-9) and Liam Hicks (2-32).
Those who managed to make runs for the visitors were Danny Conway (37) and Martin Hennock (27) and must have wished their team-mates had spent longer at the crease.
Despite losing Dean Stokes for a duck, skipper Joel Lodge (53*) and No3 Adam Rutter (51*) slowly but surely took their side to victory with an unbeaten 116-run second-wicket partnership which achieved victory in the 38th over.
Aldwick took 26 points to go second in the early league table.
Aldwick II had their match against Barns Green II in division seven cancelled.
