A team talk led by coach John Cornelius sparked fresh impetus by Amazons and they picked up the pace in the second quarter. Well-rounded team attacking saw Amazons race to a 33-19 lead by half-time.

Amazons continued their dominance in the second half with Vicky Smith having a particularly good quarter, scoring eight points. Strong rebounding by centres Michelle Denyer, Jo Gabb and Lara Whitaker prevented Crawley from getting any second chances at the basket.

Despite respectable shooting from Crawley in the final quarter, Amazons cruised to victory. Overall, it was an impressive start from the well-drilled ladies, who are hoping for a promising season.

Amazons: L Uncles (20), L Whitaker (15), V Smith (12), M Denyer (6), D King (4), J Gabb (3), L Stapely (2), Z Vitanyi.
