Medals galore as Arun gymnasts show advanced skills

TWELVE members of Arun Gymnastics Club competed at the Sussex advanced four-piece and the bronze, silver and gold all-around competition.

In the bronze, silver and gold competition, medals were awarded only for the all-around score while in the advanced competition medals were awarded for individual equipment performances as well.

Grace Markey, Rosie Budge and Olivia Pinchbeck competed in the advanced eight and nine-year-olds category, where excellent individual performances from Grace and Olivia saw them win a total of six medals.

Following a silver for her flowing bars and two bronze medals for her floor and vault, Grace finished overall second and won another silver for her consistency.

Olivia picked up gold for her excellent vault and a silver for her floor which helped her to overall fifth.

Libby Morton represented the club at bronze level for eight and nine-year-olds and capped a wonderful display of gymnastics, coming first on all four of her individual disciplines, achieving first place overall and earning her the coveted gold.

The ten and 11-year-old advanced category saw Gabriella Noviello, Amelia Rishman and Lucy Aldred compete, with all girls winning at least one medal.

Gabriella was the highest-placed Arun gymnast with bronze on the floor and vault and silver on the bars helping her to second place and her second silver. Amelia’s superb vault won her gold and she finished overall fifth and gained the trophy for the overall title for the best vault of the day, while Lucy shared bronze for her floor routine.

Emily Day was Arun’s only competitor in the 12-14-year-olds’ bronze competition and she put in excellent second-place performances on the vault and beam, enough to leave her celebrating with a bronze following an overall third-place finish.

Arun’s last competitors were Sophie Haines, Rebecca Williamson, Jenna Partridge and Betsy Baird, all in the 12-14-year-olds’ advanced category. Betsy was the highest-placed Arun gymnast finishing fourth overall after winning bronze for bars and silver for her beam routine. Rebecca won an apparatus bronze after two good vaults.
