Bognor Regis Archery Club’s summer schedule is coming to an end.
The club held a traditional archery competition in which archers had to remove the technology from their bows – helpful little gizmos like sights, balance weights and ‘clickers’ had to be taken off.
The weather was kind and an enjoyable day’s shooting took place in which even the best archers were challenged with this unusual (for most) form of archery.
Prizes were awarded to individuals for their recent personal performance (third and second-class archers badges), for age groups (junior and senior), ladies/gents and bow types (wooden traditional and composite recurve).
Chocolates were awarded for the best ‘colour’ (gold, red, blue, black and white), spot prizes (where circles had been applied within the coloured bands) and also for the archer who had achieved the most ‘greens’ (arrows which had landed in the grass).
The club now move indoors for their winter schedule in the sports hall at Westbourne House School. The distance available to shoot indoors is shorter than outside (20 and 25 yards being typical) but the challenge is maintained by using much smaller target faces.
For the hardier archers, and to maintain the outdoors shooting skill, the club will hold monthly outdoor shoots on the sports field behind Arun Leisure Centre at Felpham, weather permitting.
