Bognor ABC’s Charley Mason won the Southern Counties junior cadet championships with a unanimous decision over Leigh Park ABC’s Declan Gouph.

In a spirited bout, Mason used his superior strength and power shots to good effect.

In a spirited bout, Mason used his superior strength and power shots to good effect.

Round one saw Mason boxing behind a nice double jab and left cross, and Gouph was struggling to adapt to Mason’s aggressive style.

Round two was much the same with Gouph trying to up the tempo but Mason went with him punch for punch.

In round three Mason was pushing forward trapping the Leigh Park boxer on the ropes and unleashing some very hard body shots.

To his credit, Gouph never gave up – but at the bell, there was only one winner with Mason’s hand raised by the referee.

In a show of good sportsmanship, Gouph came into Mason’s dressing room to shake hands and congratulate him on his win – so credit goes to both boxers on an entertaining championship bout.
