The Chichester and Fishborne Croquet Club recently held their Annual Club Singles Championships.

The competition was open to men and women and attracted a field of 16 players of all handicaps.

The weather was very hot and humid but did not seem to affect the competitive spirit and excellent play.

It was encouraging to see some of the newer players participating, and the handicapping system levelled the playing field to give players of any calibre the chance to do well.

Every player had to play four preliminary games, resulting in John Uwins and Brian Shipman meeting in the final having won all their games with the highest hoop differences.

An extremely hard fought final resulted in John beating Brian on the last hoop to win 7-6, thus taking home the Staniland Shield.
