Tennis champions aged from ten to 70 were crowned at Fishbourne Tennis Club’s annual finals day.
In glorious sunshine, an appreciative crowd were enthralled by some great tennis and close matches as the club’s traditional singles and doubles finals were played out on ‘centre court’ at the club in Blackboy Lane.
Two new trophies were awarded this year: the Chairman’s Cup for new members, and a special junior invitation match. With 35 new members in the past four months and juniors now approaching 20 per cent of the total membership, both the new trophies reflect booming areas of the club.
“Tennis is surely the best game there is for people of all ages and that is something we proved at finals day this year,” said club chairman David Lord.
“From our juniors to the more senior members, the standard of play was high and there were some really close matches. And most important everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day.
“My congratulations to all the winners and all the runners-up and particularly to our junior members, Ben Jameson and Callum Budd, who played an excellent set and really did show some older members how to do it!”
An American tournament, inter-club competitions, table tennis evening and quiz night are among upcoming events at Fishbourne Tennis Club, along with the ongoing five mix-in club sessions a week, held throughout the year at the floodlit courts.
