Rounds five and six of the Renault Clio Series took place at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Northamptonshire - and it was a dream weekend for Aldingbourne ace Luke Herbert.
Testing had gone well and he knew the initial speed was there for qualifying.
Qualifying took place late Saturday morning and Herbert set the pace early on, taking pole position and setting the fastest lap of the session just four laps in. As the session went on, the times didn’t get any quicker and Herbert claimed his third pole position of the season.
The first race of the weekend took place in dry track conditions and it was looking like the race would play into his hands. He made a good start off the line but was side by side with the second-placed driver going into the hairpin.
Herbert was lucky enough to come out ahead and from then on kept his head down to take the chequered flag by 1.4 seconds and the fastest lap.
Sunday brought another dry day for the next qualifying stage and race.
In qualifying, Herbert set the early pace to take pole position - but with the top four covered by 0.5 seconds it was going to be a close race.
Herbert started alongside his biggest rival on the grid again but after making a bad start, those in second and third places overtook him going into the first bend. But some late braking by Herbert saw him gain second place.
The leader was able to start opening a small gap over Herbert over a couple of laps but he was determined not to let him get away with the lead and set about chasing him down.
With half the race left, Herbert took his opportunity to make a late move and take the lead. Herbert eventually crossed the line in first place 4.1 seconds ahead of his competitors and with another fastest lap.
With lots of silverware to take home Herbert now hopes to compete in the Renault Clio UK championship in three weeks. Herbert thanked sponsors SRC Recycling for their continued support and everyone behind the scenes.
