Chichester Hockey Club under-tens won gold at Havant’s John Wright Tournament medal tournament.

Following a productive season, coaches Andrew Savory and Bryan Lock were confident the team would do well.

The opening game saw Chichester face Fareham and with only ten minutes’ action, the instruction from the coaches was to try to score early.

Excellent midfield play from Luke Savory and Raife Locke opened up the Fareham defence time after time until eventually good solo work from Locke opened the scoring.

A few minutes later Savory added a second with some excellent solo stick work following with a neat reverse touch. Fareham caught Chichester napping with a long ball to make the score 2-1 to Chichester, but Chichester held on to secure the three points.

With the first win secured, Chichester surged on to win the other three games in the group stages - beating Trojans, Reading and Havant.

Excellent teamwork secured a semi-final against City of Portsmouth. It was tense but Chichester edged it 2-1.

The final was against Sunbury & Walton. Chichester started confidently and excellent defending from Monty Marley, Rachel Horton and Ewan Flowers kept Sunbury at bay.

Following several promising attacks, Chichester took the lead. With only a few minutes to play the tension was almost unbearavle as Chichester held on.
