Crawley discus star Jade Lally hopes to make up for the disappointment of missing out on the 2012 Olympics by trying to qualify for this year’s World Championships in Moscow.

She needs to reach a distance of 62 metres but believes she is well on the way to booking her place after recording 58.88m for England in the Home Countries International at Bedford.

She prepared for the season with a trip to Brazil and competed in three competitions while out there.

This weekend she puts on a Team GB shirt to be Britain’s sole representative in the discus at the European Team Championships in Gateshead, which will be screened live on BBC2 on Saturday.

Lally, from Pease Pottage said: “I’m feeling in great shape in a better frame of mind than last year when I was really under pressure. I was delighted to hear I’d been selected for Team GB on Friday.
