A total of 52 players turned out for the money-in money-out darts competition at Chichester Snooker Club, some coming from as far afield as Southampton and Dorset.

There was a very strong field of local, super-league, county, BDO and PDC players.

Some big clashes early on saw top names going out and, as the competition reached the quarter-finals, some big names met.

Arguably the match of the night pitted Sussex player Gary Blackwood against PDC pro Andy Jenkins. Blackwood edged a 4-3 win.

The first semi-final saw Sussex’s Craig Stoner take one Hampshire’s Ricky Williams. Stoner won 4-0, though it was a lot closer than the score suggests.

In the second semi, another Sussex/Hampshire clash saw Garry Blackwood take on Charlie Jackson. Jackson went 3-1 up but a fighting comeback from Blackwood earned him a 4-3 win.

Nearly 30 people stayed to watch the all-Sussex final between two players who know each other very well.

The first leg looked like going Blackwood’s way but Stoner kept up and a score of 138 left him 86 which he took first time.

Consistent scoring from Stoner, notching nearly 100 at every visit, was too much for Blackwood and Stoner triumphed 4-0.

The competition is a non-league event. Future tournaments will be advertised locally and are open to anyone.

The blind trebles knockout and league trophy presentation took place at the Newtown Social Club.

In the trebles, the first semi-final saw Keith Robinson (Chi Snooker C), Bradley Marshall (BRSA Ravens) and Mary Roberts (Richmond Rebels) beat Mary-Jane Todd (BRSA Ravens), Andy Stubbs (Chi Snooker B) & Lewis Kalli (Newtown SC A).

The second semi-final saw Debbie Ling (Aldwick Legion A), Keelan Belcher (Newtown SC A) and Gary Blackwood (Claremont Cobras) defeat Sam Chant (Bognor Sports Club), Mick Delaney (BRSA B) & John Abbott (BRSA B).

In the final, Blackwood started his team off with a 140 and his next throw was a 180, instantly putting them into the lead. But Robinson, Marshall and Roberts caught up and won the first leg. The second leg also saw Blackwood lead his trio to the win.

In the third leg, Ling, Belcher and Blackwood took the win to lift this year’s title and take home £180 between them. Blackwood has won this knockout for the past three years.
