The Bognor Friday Night Summer League over-50s and ladies’ knockouts took place at Aldwick Royal British Legion.
A total of 24 players turned up for the over-50s tournament, 17 for the ladies’ event.
In the ladies’ knockout, last year’s winner Hayley Gatford (Hunston Club) made her way to the first semi-final to meet Emma Bist (POW J), who, in her first Friday night appearance, had started by playing the only preliminary match.
Last years runner-up Ellie Gostick (Richmond Rebels) was beaten in the second round by Mary-Jane Todd (BRSA Ravens), who also brushed past former winner Debbie Clements (Old Barn) in the first round.
Her opponent in the second semi-final was her sister Alice Todd (Aldwick Legion ‘B’), who had defeated another former winner, Paula Duckett (Richmond Rebels), in the first round.
Both semi-finals went to the third leg but through to the final went Bist and Alice Todd.
The first leg saw Bist hit the double to win it. The second leg saw Todd stay well ahead before Bist closed the gap and hit her double to take the title.
In the over-50s’ knockout, only one of six former finalists – Derek Longhurst (Wheatsheaf) – made it to the semi-finals.
The first semi-final saw Longhurst come up against John Abbott (BRSA B). Abbott made it through to the final.
The second semi saw Chris Osborne (Hunston Club) take on Richard Pennells (Old Barn). Osborne brushed him aside to make it through.
In the first leg of the final, it was nip and tuck before Osborne took the extra chance he needed to hit double five to take the leg.
The second leg saw Abbott have a chance to level it up but he missed double top, giving Osborne another chance, and with double nine with his first dart he took the leg and the over-50s title.
