Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club hosted an LTA ten-and-under green ball county tour event.

It was a grade-five event and was the latest in a series of junior tournaments staged at the club.

This boys’ singles was run using a compass draw format of eight players.

Each match comprised two short sets to four games, with a match tie-break if necessary. Adverse weather meant it was not possible to complete all the matches.

The final, due to be contested between Jacob Harding and Nicolas De Brunner, could not be played. And the third place play-off between Antonio De Brunner and Sam Baldwin was abandoned before the start.

The back draw was completed and was won by Oliver Fernandez, who beat Joe Eales 5-4, 5-3.

Tournament referee Peter Cook said: “It was good to see some new faces competing in this event- a positive sign that word is spreading that we deliver good-quality competition opportunities at Chichester.

“It was such a pity that, for the first time, we were unable to complete an event because of the weather.”
