Testing went well with Herbert faster than some of the series regulars and he was confident for qualifying, but the rain came and Herbert had to qualify in the wet and with new tyres he’d never used before.

Herbert set about setting the two quick laps he needed but with problems arising with the car he was left to start the races 23rd and 24th on the grid respectively.

Race one saw Herbert determined to make a good start but problems with the car meant that within a lap he was in the pits and his race all but finished. After being sent back out to continue the race it wasn’t long before Luke returned to the pits and his race was ended. The first technical ‘did not finish’ of his racing career.

After the race, it was established a faulty wiring loom was affecting a number of things on the car throughout qualifying and the race.

After another of the teams came to Herbert’s rescue with the part he needed, he took his place on the grid for the second race of the weekend.

Starting 24th, the start he made was crucial and by the end of lap one Herbert clawed his way to 15th. He took the chequered flag in 13th place ahead of many seasoned drivers.

Herbert hopes to compete in the final round of the UK championship at the famous Brands Hatch circuit in two weeks before a potential championship campaign in the Michelin Clio Cup Championship in 2014.

He thanked sponsors SRC Recycling for their continued support and for making Rockingham possible and praised the whole Luke Herbert Racing team.
