New lawns mark new era for West Wittering Croquet Club

The newly-refurbished courts at West Wittering Croquet Club were officially opened by Richard Shrub and Rosamund Champ, the chairman and vice-chairman of the Woodyer Trust.

They unveiled a plaque which acknowledges the donations received from the Woodyer Trust, Chichester District Council, the Croquet Association, the South East Croquet Federation and club menbers.

After the ceremony, Mr Shrub hit the first ball on the new courts.

The courts, in Elms Lane adjacent to the cricket club, have been newly-levelled and grassed. An anti-vermin barrier and new irrigation system has been installed.

The club will hold an open day on bank holiday Monday, May 7, (2-5pm), when new members will be welcome. Information about membership can be obtained from Veronica Ferguson on 01243 512344.
