Chris Bristow played the role of villain and part-hero as Chichester slipped to a 2-0 defeat to Ashmoor – their third successive West Conference loss.

His green card offence led to Max Romer-Lee firing the Devon visitors ahead from a 28th minute penalty corner.

Bristow was briefly sin-binned for inappropriate comments to an umpire and stood and watched as Romer-Lee drag-flicked his shot in exactly the place the goalkeeper would normally be standing to give Ashmoor a 1-0 half-time lead.

Coach Merijn van Willigen later incurred the umpire’s wrath and was similarly green-carded.

There was no shortage of effort or endeavour from Chichester, who lacked creativity and forced only one penalty corner, that in the closing stages of the game when Alex Baxter rolled his shot wide.

At the other end, Bristow redeemed himself with two fine saves – one low down to his right from a short corner – before Fletcher Naisbett-Jones wrapped it up for Ashmoor with a well taken goal two minutes from time.

A second away game in a row for the Chichester took them to East Grinstead aiming to make it a hat-trick of wins for the start of the season.

Wearing commemorative green tops in memory of Daisy Strange (read more about the club’s tribute to Daisy next week) Chichester came out strong with the majority of play in their attacking half .

The likes of Sally Bradley, Maddie Hantrais and Lottie Greenlees, caused numerous problems for the EG defence.

With pressure coming through the middle, McTear passed to Bella Festa who smacked the ball into the backboard.

The remainder of the half saw various attacks from Demelza Peake distributing the ball up the wings, and Laura Hantrais at right back getting in front of her opponent and creating brilliant attacks up the right.

EG had chances at goal but the Chi defence of Stanley, Thomas, Bennison and Brown in goal kept them out.

Maddie Hantrais with a fabulous run down the left created an opportunity but it was just wide.

At the start of the second half Chichester were attacking well and Rose had a shot on goal kept out.

Chi spent the majority of the second half on the attack.

They were finally rewarded with a bit of a scrappy goal as Greenlees managed to get a touch into the back of the net.

EG made a few counter-

attacks but Stanley was not letting them through without a fight, Brown making some killer saves.

Greenlees was shown a green card but in the final minutes Chi kept attacking.

Bradley’s pass found McTear who produced a bullet-like shot into the back of the net.

The goal was fully deserved and a brilliant way to round off the match.

The player of the match title was awarded to Laura Hantrais for her superb performance.

This 3-0 victory and a clean sheet made it a hat-trick of wins, an excellent start for Chi Ladies.

The team are at home this week to Eastbourne, aiming to continue their early-season winning streak.

Following a breathless 5-5 draw at home to Bournemouth fours, the Friars took on another young, fast team.

Despite early pressure from Romsey, Friars took the lead in the eighth minute when a long ball was deflected into the goal by Bryan Locke from the top of the D.

The lead was short-lived as the Friars lost possession and were caught out by a solo run, followed by a great finish by the Romsey player.

The remainder of the half was very close, both teams creating chances. Romsey took the lead on 18 minutes, again counter-attacking fast after the Friars lost the ball deep in the Romsey half. But the Friars kept battling and drew level in the 33rd minute when Locke picked up the rebound at a short corner to slot home his second.

Romsey came out very strong in the second half and regained the lead on 44 minutes with another goal.

This was another good Friars performance, with Trevor Andrews and Mark Richmond strong at the back, plenty of running and creativity by Luke Savory on the right and a welcome return to the team by Mark Green.

The Friars remain third.
