The boy Dunne good for Chichester at Lee Valley

While most Chichester Runners members have been tackling the challenge of the mud and hills of cross country, Chichester’s indoor contingent have also been in action.

One athlete who has tackled both surfaces this winter has been Liam Dunne who had his first indoor race of the winter at the Lee Valley graded meeting.

With a number of national standard runners on view, Dunne was put in the third race over 800 metres and was well satisfied with going under 1min 58sec in a tactical race.

This is a good pointer to the summer track season where Dunne, already the club’s record holder at the distance, will be out to improve on his 1.55.08 clocking of last season.

Closer to home, half a dozen juniors went to Horsham on Sunday for the third Sussex League sportshall match.

Under-13s Ellie Courtney and Grace Bishop had their usual busy afternoon with Courtney not only tackling the two, four and six-lap individual race but having the energy to team up with Grace Bishop for the eight-lap paarlauf at the end of the match.

Bishop had earlier concentrated on-field events with a second place in the vertical jump her best individual effort of the day. Sam Cato ran both two and six lap in the boys’ match and added a good speed bounce.

Ethan Cooper, Jake Courtney and Anna Dudman were all in action over two laps, standing long jump and speed bounce for the under-11s.
