Paul Nicholls’ 8/11 favourite Sending Love kicked off the afternoon with an all-the-way win in the MansionBet Watch & Bet Novices’ Hurdle under Bryan Carver – taking the class 4 contest by 3¼ lengths.

Just three went to post for the MansionBet Faller Insurance Novices’ Chase, with Archie Watson and Gavin Sheehan’s Premier D’troice taking up the lead on the run-in and doing just enough to land the race by a neck, as the 4/1 outsider.

An aptly-named winner for Nigel Twiston-Davies and owner-rider Jamie Nield, in the MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Hurdle, as 2/1F Nye Bevan – named after the founder of our wonderful NHS - kept on well from the last to win by 1½ lengths.

Not to be outdone by his father, it was Sam Twiston-Davies’ turn to land a winner on the afternoon, riding Schnabel to a 8 1/2-length victory for Matt Sheppard - in the 3m 2f MansionBet Bet 10 Get 20 Handicap Chase, at 5/2.

Soarlikeaneagle returned the biggest-priced winner of the afternoon – at 22/1 – as James Davies steered the Richard Rowe-trained nine-year-old to a commanding 5½-length win in the bestbettingsites.co.uk Handicap Hurdle.

Following the eagle, it was the turn of the Hawke, as trainer Nigel Hawke and jockey Kieren Buckley teamed up with 2/5F, Diligent – who justified the odds to land the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap Chase by a comfortable 8 lengths.

Bred in the USA Independence reigned supreme in the Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Open National Hunt Flat Race, sealing the final success of the afternoon for Brian Barr and Patrick Cowley – returning 5/2.

Racing returns to the West Sussex track with another behind closed doors meeting on Wednesday, May 5.
