Just over 900 runners, ranging from nine-year-olds to veterans, took part in the first of three race nights in a rather wet city centre on Wednesday evening.

That’s the most to run on one night of the event since it began in 1992.

There were eight races in total and photographer Derek Martin was there for the Observer to capture all the action.
