Records tumble at Selsey CC - even if wickets don't

TWO great feats in one weekend are being celebrated at Selsey Cricket Club.

Against Lynchmere, the opening partnership between Andy Horner (111 not out) and Gary Mack (143 not out) took Selsey right through their innings, which ended on 272 for no loss. Horner was dropped early on and Mack gave a chance when he’d scored 70.

The stand was more than enough to defeat Lynchmere, who were 132 all out thanks largely to the bowling of James Chaloner (3-9) and Nick Horner (3-11).

In another Selsey match - at home to Boxgrove - there was a different and equally-remarkable feat with three members of the same family scoring half centuries in the same innings.

Nick Horner scored 65, Andy Horner 83 and Pete Horner 61. Andy is chairman of the club, and Nick and Peter are his sons.

Pete Horner said: “Having three from one family scoring 50s was a club first, we believe. My dad and I put on 94 for the third wicket and when I was caught for 61 my brother Nick and dad put on 140 for the fourth wicket. We eventually scored 299 for four.”

It all ended a fantastic week for Selsey after the renaming of the club pavilion in memory of Sir Patrick Moore.
