Roadworks are gone - and cyclists make most of it

With the roadworks gone from outside Rolls Royce's Goodwood base, Bognor Cycling Club were back on their full eight-mile course.

It was a warm evening but this hid a deceptive breeze that meant times were not as quick as anticipated.

A new winner emerged in the form of Tom Foot of Blazing Saddles while Deb Smith of Souhtdown Velo was fastest lady.

Events are now attracting increasing numbers of new riders including some who have never raced before. For Freddie Horwill it was his first event and he recorded a creditable 23.08 to take 21st place.

Elsewhere BRCC’s Kelly Enticott celebrated her last few days of freedom before getting married by winning the women’s road race at Goodwood.

Breaking away from the main peloton with Elise Sherwell of Blazing Saddles, the pair established a lead and were then joined by four others to make the winning break.

Coming into the finishing straight, Enticott went for the long sprint and crossed the line well clear of the other riders.

The previous week was a good one for Bognor Cycling Club.

Enticott recorded yet another win at Gravesend in the Women’s Spring Twilight Series while Aaron Smith goes from strength to strength taking third place in BRCC’s Thursday’s time trial, moving up from fourth the previous week.

Smith has also been riding strongly in Hampshire RC’s Tuesday evening events.

Blustery and cold conditions meant most went slightly slower on the shortened course but Alex Napier of Blazing Saddles maintained his dominance with another strong ride despite experimenting with some new equipment.

Deb Smith took the honours in the ladies’ event.

Elsewhere the BRCC colours were flying in the Bognor duathlon where Richard Miles took fifth place despite not having participated in a duathlon for more than 20 years.
