They ran directly at the home side from kick-off. Spurle unleashed twinkle toed Scott-Darling on the blind side, and he showed good pace to score in the corner.

Harry Ide was everywhere and one move was moved wide to centre Henton, who sped round to score under the posts. Fly-half Clark converted.

The prolific Henton was on the scoresheet moments later after a fine break from co-centre Corbould. The Bognor forwards began to dominate the rucks with Liam Riley making a nuisance of himself.

Birthday boy Stan Wright made a break to set up the backs and Henton was given enough space to complete his hat trick – and it was 22-0 at the break.

Orchard and Bishop came on and had an immediate impact. A smooth backs move saw Clark’s pass put Corbould clear and Barker was on his shoulder to recycle. The ball was moved wide and Henton was on the end of a brilliant pass from Darling to score.

Spurle was next on the scoresheet after spotting a gap and rounding the full-back. Crawley had a spell of pressure but huge hits from the feisty Southern and big George Corney stemmed the tide.

Henton scored four more tries to take his tally to eight. A fine end to the game saw Peterson make good ground after the bull-like Joyce took several men to tackle him.

Arthur Wright, also a birthday boy, continued the move before full-back Freddie Hayes weaved his magic to score. Clark found his radar to kick the final points.

BOGNOR: Corney (Bishop), Wright, Joyce, Riley (Orchard), Southern, Barker, Ide, Scott-Darling, Spurle, Clark (cap), Peterson, Corbould, Henton, Wight A, Hayes.
