Chichester rugby players take Sussex so close to Twickenham

A Sussex squad relying heavily on Chichester players narrowly missed out on a county championship final at Twickenham.

They qualified for the championship semi-final by beating Middlesex at Staines. Having beaten Hampshire 26-23 the

previous weekend, Sussex recovered from trailing 14-0 down after ten minutes to score four tries and win 29-27.

But the semi proved a bridge too far as they lost to Surrey.

A total of 14 players from Chichester have represented Sussex in this year’s county championship, more than any other club in the county.

They were Ben Polhill (captain), Andy Gray, Philip Veltom, Niall Goldie, Joe Woods, John Lindsay, Billy Toone, Danny Kirkpatrick, Tom Polhill, Tom Jackson, Charlie Laflin, Harry Seaman, Toby Golds, Chris Wagstaff.
