FA Trophy build-up: Fans reveal favourite Nyewood Lane occasions

David Silk: My memory probably doesn’t mean anything to a lot of others but I go back to my first visit to Nyewood Lane in season 1982-83. Wycombe Wanderers won the league that season.

After following Pompey all my life I had become disillusioned with league football and all the crowd violence that had crept in and I decided I’d had enough.

After a break from football I decided to visit Nyewood Lane with my first game being against Walthamstow Avenue. Bognor defeated them 8-1 and I thought ‘I’ll have some more of that’ and did so for the next 23 seasons. This enabled me to find out what a superb little family-orientated club it was, making lots of friends and in turn doing my bit helping out.

Sadly I can’t manage the trip down from Haslemere nowadays and it’s around nine or ten years since I last got there – but everything is there in spirit. Very best of luck to everyone against Grimsby Town.

Oliver Harvey: I’d have to say the crunch relegation game against St Albans back in 2008 in Conference South, when Seb Wallis Tayler scored the winner. It wasn’t as big an occasion as this year’s FA Trophy ties but it was the game that made me fall in love with the club – and it helped keep us in the league.

I was only ten at the time, and had to stand on a bench just to see the game.

Malcolm Harper: After moving down from Crawley two weeks before, my first game at Nyewood Lane was the 1984 Swansea FA Cup replay in the pouring rain. I was squashed like a sardine. It as a brilliant atmosphere that night, got me hooked and I have been going ever since home and away.
