Now Sussex rugby chiefs can field an all-Chichester XV...

A record number of Chichester RFC players made appearances for Sussex in this year's county championship.

Fifteen members of Chichester’s successful first XV were involved in games against Surrey and Middlesex, many more than from any other club in the county.

Following the inclusion of some of Chichester’s younger players in the Sussex under-20s side earlier in the season, it’s an indication of the strength Chichester have at all levels.

The 15 players to appear for Sussex were Nick Shopland, Robert Lawrence, Phil Veltom, Luke Davies, Josh Pszczonka, Martin O’Callaghan, Scott Barlow, Darren Lockyear, Jon Lindsey, Phil Dickin, Moses Kasuja, Ben Polhill, Billy Toone, Jack Smallman and Toby Golds.

Polhill was selected as captain for the county squad and he, Dickin and Lindsey all got their name on the scoresheet, though Sussex lost 25-20 against Surrey and 42-30 to Middlesex.

It was another feather in the cap for the Oaklands Park club, coming hot on the heels of their London one south and Sussex Trophy triumph.
