Sporting Chichester students called up by their country

Jessica Breach started for England’s under-20 women’s rugby team against France last week – her fourth England appearance. The wing plays for Aylesford Bulls, a Kent-based Women’s Premiership team.

Breach’s university rugby side have won the south-eastern 1A division on the back of six wins in a row and will now face Hartpury in a play-off match, with the winner taking on Cambridge for a place in the British Universities and Colleges top league.

Shannon Sievwright, Courtney Trodd and Lucy Quinn have been selected for the English Universities women’s football squad and join Lorenzo Dolcetti, who will be part of England’s men’s football team in the Home Nations matches that take place in Edinburgh in April.

BUCS league action is in its final weeks now and some Chichester teams are in involved in contests for promotion and battles to avoid relegation.

The women’s hockey firsts’ 2-0 win over south-eastern 2A league leaders University College London means another victory in their final game against would give them the title and ensure promotion to tier one.

The men’s and women’s basketball teams, men’s and women’s tennis firsts, men’s futsal firsts, men’s lacrosse firsts, men’s and women’s badminton teams and men’s hockey firsts are all at the other end of the table.

Both men’s and women’s handball teams qualified for the British University Handball Championships in Gillingham.
