The gym is the second facility set up by Elitas Fitness, a company founded and run by former Bishop Luffa School students Ben Hanton and David Cox.

It provides the Chichester area with one of the best-equipped strength-training facilities in the UK and is open to anyone who wants to become a member.

All the equipment comes from the industry’s highest-quality brands, such as Eleiko, Watson Gym Equipment and Wattbike. Several pieces came from Rugby World Cup 2015 training venues.

Elitas co-founder Hanton said “We are extremely excited to be able to offer world-class facilities and expert coaching and advice to CRFC players and members as well as the general public.”

With Chichester’s first XV now playing at National League level, access to professional-standard training facilities will be invaluable.

Players will also benefit from programming and coaching from the Elitas Fitness staff, who have experience working with professional sportsmen from both rugby and American football. They intend to injury-proof the players while enhancing their speed, strength, power and conditioning on the field of play.

They will also be working with many of the 450 young players at the club, providing small exercise classes as well as one-to-one appointments to teach them the essentials of strength and conditioning and to enhance their development.

It is not just athletes who will benefit. Elitas have been working with individuals from all walks of life over the past few years. From elderly and disabled people aiming to improve their ability to perform daily tasks, to the young and healthy looking to lose body fat and gain muscle – everybody can benefit from a tailor-made strength and conditioning programme.

The gym is providing employment opportunities in the area in an industry notoriously difficult to break into. It has four full-time coaches operating and is advertising for two more positions.

With graduates on their doorstep at the University of Chichester, there should be no shortage of good-quality candidates.
