Success at the double for Lavant House netballers

Lavant House's under-15, under-16 and under-18 netball teams have had a busy and successful time on the court.

The under-16s and under-18s travelled to The Regis School to compete in the annual West Sussex West tournaments. At under-16 level, there were nine schools vying for the trophy. The organisers stipulated all team members on each team had to switch positions in order to show their versatility.

Lavant started well, beating Chichester High School for Girls 6-1 and Bourne A 5-0.

Coach Claire Cobden said: “I was really impressed how well the girls played despite being out of position.”

The team beat The Regis School 7-0, Westergate 5-2 and St Philip Howard 8-3 before coming up against old rivals Bishop Luffa, previous opponents in the final.

Both teams had won all of their previous matches but the Lavant House defence proved too good and they triumphed 5-2.

The under-18s from Lavant’s sixth form were one of four teams in the upper age range.

Lavant began well, winning their first games 9-2 and 15-0. In the final, they also met Bishop Luffa, who had an excellent attack and won 9-3 giving them the title and placing Lavant House second.

Cobden added: “All the girls played with determination and exceptional skill. The team were hungry for success and played outstanding netball.”

The under-15s competed in Lavant House’s own netball tournament against Portsmouth High School, Ditcham Park and Moira House. They played exceptionally well and ended up as tournament winners.
