Success goes full cycle for Southdown riders

Southdown Velo-Geared Bikes riders were back in action at Goodwood motor-racing circuit.

A series of cycling road races provided further indication the club are in for a very successful year.

In the youth events, siblings Erin and Alderney Baker continued to shine with a win and fourth place between them.

Murray Quinney, a former member who has rejoined, was third in the senior race ahead of team-mate Andy Page, who finished ninth.

Relative newcomer Frith Roche (pictured), from West Wittering, impressed most on the day. Riding only her second road race and admitting to total naivety, she finished fourth in the women’s race. Her male team-mates have been impressed by her riding on the Sunday club runs and have encouraged her to take up racing.

She shows natural aptitude and the right level of aggression required to succeed in the toughest of sports.

Last year she completed the John O’Groats to Land’s End ride in her first serious year of riding.
