US basketball stars heading for Chichester

Some of the most talented basketball players from America will be showing off their skills at the University of Chichester on Wednesday (Sept 14) during two matches in one day.

The USA Select Basketball team is made up of players who narrowly missed out securing contracts with professional clubs in America. They are visiting Chichester as part of a European tour, designed to showcase the skills of individual players in the hope of being signed by a club on this side of the pond.

They will play two games at the Bishop Otter Campus in Chichester. They will firstly take on the University of Chichester Thunder, who play in National League Division Four South, tipping off at 5.30pm, followed by a match-up against National League Division One side Worthing Thunder, tipping off at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £3, available on the door, and entitle spectators to see both matches. Free parking is available on campus from 5.00pm.

Sid Fletcher, Sports Development Manager for the University of Chichester Students’ Union, said: “We’re delighted the USA Select team has chosen to play at Chichester as part of their European tour. These American players have only just missed out on playing in the best basketball league in the world, and will be determined to show the best of their abilities in their matches to catch the eye of coaches from professional clubs in the UK.

“Opportunities to see this high standard of basketball do not happen often in Chichester, and I would encourage all basketball fans to come and see them in action as they pitch their skills against our University side and Worthing Thunder.”
