We'll drink to that! Polo championship blooms with new sponsor deal

Cowdray Park Polo Club have announced that BLOOM London Dry Gin will continue as title sponsor of the British ladies' open polo championship this year.

And in recognition of the increasing strength of women’s polo in the UK, the event is being given a more prominent position in Cowdray Park’s fixture list.

It will be played during the concluding week of the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup. The final will take place on Saturday, July 20, the day before the Gold Cup final.

The club’s vice-president, Lila Pearson, who has consistently entered a team in the British ladies’ open championship at Cowdray Park for the past six years, said: “Last year’s ladies’ open final was considered one of the most exciting matches played at Cowdray Park during the 2012 season.

“It’s great news that such a high-profile position in the polo calendar is being allocated to this increasingly-important fixture. The ladies will relish the chance to play the final on the Gold Cup weekend.”

BLOOM London Dry Gin was created by Joanne Moore, the only female gin master distiller in the world.

Mike Salmon, the brand’s marketing director, said: “It’s great to be the title sponsor of the BLOOM British ladies’ open polo championship again.

“The quality of polo played in last year’s close-fought final showed the high standard of today’s ladies’ game to a wider audience.”

At the final, prizes will be sponsored by the luxury leather goods company Aspinal of London.
