Young tennis champs are pride of Chichester

Chichester Racquets & Fitness Club's eight-and-under tennis team were crowned Sussex champions in the LTA Aegon Team Tennis event at West Worthing Tennis Club.

The team, overseen by club coach Peter Cook, comprised Tom Baily, George Haig, Diego Savage-Melendez and Arran Goode.

This team event was run using a round-robin format for the six teams, Chichester Racquets and Fitness Club, Pavilion & Avenue Tennis Club, Bognor LTC, West Worthing Tennis Club, David Lloyd Worthing and Angmering-on-Sea Tennis Club.

Each match, played first to ten points, comprised four singles followed by the reverse singles and finally two doubles matches – so a match against each club was ten rubbers in total, equalling the sum of 50 matches for the youngsters.

Cook said: “We defeated every club in this competition, which is an incredible achievement. I am extremely proud of all our players, who have trained so hard and played with tremendous heart to win this event.”
