Youth football: Wasps are buzzing again

There are wins for Sporting Felpham, Chichester City Colts, Predators, Regis 2000, Northchapel Colts, Bosham Trojans and Midhurst & Easebourne in this week's youth football round-up - plus news of a great trophy triumph for Walberton Wasps.

Walberton Wasps are buzzing after they picked up their second piece of silverware of the season.

After winning the best foreign team on their tour of Italy, they have been presented with the Arun and Chichester League Fair Play Trophy.

This is awarded for organisation, officers, spectators and sportsmanship of players and competed for by all youth teams in all age groups.

UNDER-16

Barnham Trojans 0 Sporting Felpham 2

Jake Boase set the tone for this exciting match in the opening minutes when his shot was parried by the Felpham goalie and the loose ball was cleared just in time to prevent the follow-up.

But it was Felpham who opened the scoring when a long throw wasn't cleared and was headed into the top corner.

The second half began with a superb save from Barnham's Jamie Lambert at point-blank range and moments later another when he tipped a 30-yard free-kick round the post. However Felpham sealed their win with another header.

Bosham 1 Pulborough Pythons 4

Bosham played some good football but were unable to capitalise.

Pythons opened the scoring with a well-taken goal and Bosham equalised through Jordan Evans.

The second half saw Pulborough putting more and more pressure on Bosham.

Man of the match Jack Randall made some great tackles and the back line held out well.

Pythons were rewarded with an own goal from a cruel deflection off a Bosham defender.

The home side continued to play good football but they were caught out for two more goals.

Two Bosham players taken to A&E with suspected broken wrists but both suffered only sprains.

Chichester City Colts 10 Felpham Colts 2

Colts started at a frenetic pace, with the first of three from McCarthy coming from a quick turn and shot.

Colts added four quick goals before half-time, with two stunners from Barton and Groom and a well-placed header from Forry.

Colts have not conceded in a first half since February.

Colts scored another five in the second half with Ellis getting a double on his return to the club.

McCarthy wrapped up his hat-trick when he lobbed the keeper.

Manners got one then Felpham got two surprise goals near the end, but Gilson finished the rout pouncing from a rebound.

Lewis Finch scored his second hat-trick of the season to secure another three points and keep Colts at the top of the table.

Tom Cowell kept a clean sheet for the third game running and once again, the back four played exceptionally well.

Joe Booth and Alex Howland looked very solid in the centre of midfield. Will Eden and Joe Artis both made promising debuts.

UNDER-15

Predator Youth 6 Worthing Utd 2

Predators continued their fine start to the season with an excellent victory over Worthing.

Tom Ryder hit a hat-trick, with Jamie Knapp adding another, before Brandon Skinner hit two late goals to see off Worthing.

Man of the match was Ryder.

UNDER-14

Pagham Youth 0 Regis 2000 1

Pagham gave a good display against their local rivals but just fell short as a second-half goal separated the teams.

The first half was even with defences on top, but in the second half, Regis put Pagham under a bit of sustained pressure with them hitting the woodwork three times before eventually scoring.

Pagham pushed for an equaliser in the last ten minutes and had a good couple of good chances, but could not find the finishing touch.

Northchapel Colts 4 Twin Oaks 3

This was a magnificent Northchapel performance against a tall, strong, physical and unbeaten Twin Oaks.

Roach put Chapel ahead from a corner but Twin Oaks hit back with a good goal.

Stevens restored the Chapel lead with a great goal.

Twin Oaks levelled again on the verge of half-time.

Chapel were unlucky to go behind ten minutes into the second half.

Five minutes later, Mckilligin coolly converted a penalty to level it up again.

Three minutes from time, Callum Dowdell nutmegged a defender, looked up, saw the keeper off his line and hit a superb 30-yard screamer over his head for the winner.

Every Chapel player was magnificent, with Ashley Carter and Howard Kenning holding firm in the heart of Chapel's back four.

Northchapel: Ford, Warren, Wright, Carter, Kenning, Kitchener, O Hara, Poste, Dowdell, Stevens, Mckilligin, Roach.

UNDER-13

Barnham Trojans 3 Predators Youth 2

Predators took an early lead when the ball was slotted to the side of the outcoming goalie.

The second half began with an equaliser from a Predators own goal.

Matt Mitchell put Barnham into the lead after a series of passes across th area enabled him to fire in.

A superb corner to the Barnham far post was met with a header and gave Predators an equaliser.

But Dominic Baker scored Barnham's winner when he latched on to a loose ball in the Predators box.

UNDER-11

Bognor Colts under-11s continue to improve as the new season gets under way.

They won their first league game 14-1 and a cup game 30-0.

Manager Mark Osborne and assistant Kelvin Morley said the effort the boys had put in during pre-season training was behind the early success.

Osborne said: "The way they have adapted to 11-a-side football has been brilliant."

UNDER-TEN

Predators 2 Felpham Colts 2

In a hard-fought game, Felpham took the lead twice but Predators fought their way back twice with both goals set up by Charlie White and both scored by George Remnant.

Great defesive work was done by Peter Edwards, but Predators should have won.

Man of the match was keeper Stanley Mitchell.

PREDATORS: Mitchell, Edwards, Howe I, White, Howe J, Keates, Remnant, Blackman Jude, Blackman Jack, Terry.

UNDER-NINE

Midhurst & Easebourne 6 Highdown Saints 0

It's two wins from two for Midhurst & Easebourne after a good victory over Highdown Saints.

It was a tight first half and both sides could have scored before Conner Jefferies opened the scoring from a corner and then added another to make it 2-0 at half-time.

The second half was more one-sided and despite excellent saves from the Highdown keeper, Midhurst added two further goals from Jefferies and one apiece from Alfie Coulson and Larry Moir to make the final score 6-0.

It was a good team performance from Midhurst with some good passing moves.
