Simon has been artistic director of Pallant House Gallery and co-director with Marc Steene, the gallery’s former executive director, since November 2013. He has worked at the gallery for almost 15 years, having been head of collections and exhibitions from 2009. He first joined the gallery as assistant curator in 2002, following his studies at the Courtauld Institute of Art and University of Warwick.

During his time at the gallery, Simon has worked on the development of the award-winning new wing and has overseen the growth of one of the UK's most significant collections of modern British art. Within the exhibition programme he has curated numerous exhibitions including Edward Burra, Eduardo Paolozzi: Collaging Culture, British Artists and the Spanish Civil War and The Mythic Method: Classicism in British Art 1920-1950.

John Booth, chairman of the trustees, said: “We are delighted that Simon emerged from a very strong field of candidates and will be building on his successful years as artistic director in this new role. With the acquisition later this month of the historic coach house to the rear of the gallery and a stimulating programme of exhibitions planned we look forward to an exciting year ahead.”

Simon said: "I am honoured that the Trustees have appointed me as director and in my new role I look forward to working with our staff, volunteers and supporters to further develop the gallery’s reputation for significant and thought-provoking exhibitions, its remarkable collection of modern British and contemporary art, and its inclusive learning and community programmes for a variety of audiences. It has been a pleasure to work alongside my former co-director Marc Steene, and I would like to express my gratitude and high regard as he becomes director of the charity Outside In."
