YOUNG people in the Observer area can make the most of a special deal for 18- to 25-year-olds at the Chichester Festival Theatre.
A special allocation of tickets priced at just £8.50 has gone on sale for the world premiere of If Only, a political drama by David Edgar.
“We are committed to making theatre affordable for younger audiences and will continue to make £8.50 tickets available throughout this season to nurture future generations of theatregoers,” said executive director at Chichester Festival Theatre Alan Finch.
The £8.50 tickets will be on sale for all performances of all productions in both the Theatre in the Park and the Minerva Theatre during Festival 2013; they will be released one month before the first preview of each production.
Since their appointment in 2006, Jonathan Church and Alan Finch have explored various ways of developing the younger audience. During Festival 2012, the theatre attracted a significant proportion of young people to its pop-up auditorium, Theatre on the Fly, which staged three critically-acclaimed productions: Blue Remembered Hills, Playhouse Creatures and Fred’s Diner.
Chichester Festival Theatre was also one of the most successful participants in the Arts Council’s A Night Less Ordinary scheme to give away tickets to young people in 2009-10.
