Fishbourne Roman Palace sets scene for the Olympics

FISHBOURNE Roman Palace is celebrating sports from the ancient world in the run-up to the Olympics.

The weekend of Saturday, July 14, to Sunday, July 15, will see a range of ancient sporting demonstrations. Re-enactment group Legion II Augusta member David Richardson said: “From the diet of Roman fighters to the curious medical treatments they may have endured, our re-enactors will give visitors a unique insight into life in the Roman Empire.”

Another glimpse into the daily lives of the Romans is offered in the re-enactors’ Roman village. The programme of demonstrations will run from 11am-4pm each day with sports training, army drills and gladiatorial bouts.
