Chichester Cathedral Choir is offering boys the chance to join it for an informal taster session – possibly with a view to joining it longer term.
The next Be A Chorister day is on Saturday, October 13 – an opportunity to sample the choir for boys in Years Two and Three.
Sarah Baldock, organist and master of the choristers, urged those interested to register on 01243 812487 or firstname.lastname@example.org, up to the day before.
The session starts at 2.15pm in the Prebendal School and will move across to the cathedral for an informal concert at 4pm.
“It’s a real taster for them,” said Sarah. “They will even get to experience Evensong. The important element is that they should want to do this type of singing, which is church singing.”
The next stage in the process will be Chorister Audition Day on Saturday, November 10.
“But for the Be A Chorister day, there is really no commitment to audition,” said Sarah.
“We would rather have a cathedral full of boys trying it out and having a fun day than nobody there because they feel they will have to come to the auditions if they come to the open day.”
The choir will have four spaces in the autumn of next year to start in Year Four.
