MILLIONS of pounds of funding could be on its way to Chichester Festival Theatre to support its ambitious redevelopment plans.
Arts Council England has confirmed the CFT has successfully completed Stage One of the application process to receive £12m towards its RENEW project, leaving just one final hurdle to clear to get the cash.
But just the invitation to apply for the £12m in Stage Two immediately unlocks a series of pledges of local support already made, most notably £2m from West Sussex County Council and Chichester District Council.
The RENEW project – a key part of the CFT’s celebration of its own anniversary – is aimed at securing the redesign, improvements and repairs essential to ensure the building is fit for purpose for the future.
Chichester Festival Theatre executive director Alan Finch said: “This positive news sets in motion a series of significant steps towards our ultimate aim – the urgent upgrade of the Festival Theatre building.
“Most significantly of all, it means we can start our 50th Anniversary Appeal, RENEW.
“We will announce the details of our fundraising campaign very soon.
“The total cost of RENEW is estimated at £22m and we do not underestimate the challenge we face.
“However, we are very grateful for the support we have received so far, not just from the Arts Council and local authorities, but from other partners, supporters and the local community in general.
