A hair dressing salon in Chichester with impeccable eco-credentials offers all colours, products and even the towels, water and electricity it uses to suit the a climate crisis aware client.
Frogg Hair Design is an eco-friendly and organic salon and puts its environmentally friendly ethos into practice at every level. All the electricity the salon uses comes from a company called Ecotricity, which only puts onto its grid power generated by wind or solar, while every towel and gown is biodegradable. Even the showers have special heads on them to limit water wastage.
Set up 15 years ago by husband and wife team Simon Martin, who comes from Chichester, and Muriel Martin, who is French, the firm already had a unique set of credentials which massively appealed to people looking for a stylish local alternative.
Muriel spent many years styling in the French film and TV industry, working on some very well-known productions, while Simon, who began his salon career here in West Sussex, trained in London then taught hair cutting to professionals in France for 10 years.
Relocating back to his home town, they set up their firm specialising in cutting and colouring with a green heart.
Simon said: “Being eco-friendly means a lot to us, and to our customers. We’ve made it our mission to only use eco-friendly products, including Natulique hair colour, which is a range of 100 per cent organic colours, and Oway hair care and treatments, which is an Italian biodynamic farming range, which is even better than organic farming.
“We don't just care about your hair, we care about the environment too. From the sustainable energy used to heat the water that washes your hair, to the organic and vegan products, sustainability is at the core of our ethos.”
And as much as Simon and Muriel are devoted to their green credentials, they invest in their staff too, with long-serving manager Hannah West being a perfect example. “As soon as our people get to a certain level we send them to the Vidal Sassoon Academy for a number of courses, to ensure they are as highly trained as possible. We want only the best for our clients,” said Simon.
