Blaze destroys bus between Chichester and Bognor Regis

A bus has been destroyed after a fire tore through the vehicle between Chichester and Bognor Regis.

Pictures show the Stagecoach single-decker gutted in the blaze, which is believed to have been started accidentally.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were called to reports of a bus on fire on the A259 Bognor Road at 10.16pm on Tuesday (July 28).

“Joint Fire Control mobilised two crews from Chichester Fire Station. Upon arrival, crews were met with a well developed fire involving a single decker bus. Officers from Sussex Police were also in attendance and closed the road to allow crews to bring the incident under control safely.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one jet and compressed air foam to extinguish the fire. They remained at the scene damping down and used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no further hotspots. There were no casualties involved, and the fire is believed to be accidental.”
