Crawley: Man hospitalised with ‘serious injuries’ following incident at college

A man has been hospitalised with ‘serious injuries’ following an incident at Crawley College this afternoon [April 25], Sussex Police have reported.

Police said emergency services were called to concerns of a man’s welfare in College Road shortly after midday.

Sussex Police said a 49-year-old man was taken to hospital. The incident is believed to be isolated, police added.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were called to concerns of man’s welfare at Crawley College, College Road shortly after midday on Thursday (25 April).

“A 49-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“This is believed to be an isolated incident and poses no threat to the wider public.”

A spokesperson from South East Coast Ambulance Service added: “I can confirm our attendance and that one person has been taken to hospital.”

In a later statement, Crawley College reassured parents and students that it was an ‘isolated incident’.

The college said its College Road campus was ‘safe’ and ‘open for all classes’ thanks to the ‘swift actions’ of the emergency services.

A Crawley College spokesperson said: “There was a serious incident on campus earlier today, which did involve a large police presence.

“We would like to reassure our college community that this was an isolated incident involving one individual. We are working with Sussex Police and can confirm there is believed to have been no threat to the college or the wider public.

“We understand there has been a lot of false speculation about the nature of the incident on social media, while we cannot comment on specific detail we do want to assure everyone that the college is safe and remains open for all classes.

“We are grateful to staff and the emergency services for their support and swift actions.”
