LETTER: Tax credits
Describing the proposals as “morally unjustifiable” Bishop Christopher urged the government to consult further and revisit their proposals to make immediate cuts to tax credits while gradually increasing the minimum wage.
He said: “To be assured that you will be better off in five years’ time will not help these families to pay the rent or gas and electricity bills. The Government is boldly confident that this will be so within five years.

Bishop Christopher welcomed the vote in the House of Lords which forced the government to reconsider the timing and impact of their proposals.
