Uncle and niece bike to help Molly’s house

Anthony May, 43, of Ferring Lane, Ferring, cycled from Worthing Pier to Brighton Pier and back with 11-year-old Molly Green on an adapted bicycle.

Anthony said: “She was an absolute angel. I was very proud of her.

“We were certainly getting the first part of the wind. It was like hitting a wall on the way back. It was extremely hard.”

The journey took more than four hours and the pair raised more than £2,000.

Molly’s mum Nichola Brown, 44, of Barwick Close, in Rustington, said: “Anthony wanted to do something for her and I’m very touched because it has taken him a long time to think of what to do. It is lovely because it is one-on-one and she adores her uncle.”

Molly currently uses a stair-lift at home, which Nichola said limits her independence.

She is trying to raise £20,000 so her home can be specially adapted to be more suitable for Molly’s needs.

She has already received a £30,000 disability grant from Arun District Council to go towards the work, which includes creating a new bedroom for Molly with wheelchair access from the outside and a an extension for a new downstairs bathroom.
