Susannah Austin’s own style and unique sound

She’s a local girl who was always destined to be a musician - mum Claire Hamill is a well known singer songwriter, and dad Nick was founder of long-ago maverick record label Beggars Banquet.

Susannah is going her own way however and has just released her first self-titled album which has been produced by Tymon Dogg of the Clash/Mescaleros. It is a twist on tradition, blending her musical roots with a soulful mix of acoustic instrumentation, taking classical sounds and adding modern rock and pop flavours, in a way that creates her own style. She has been likened to Joni Mitchell, Sandy Denny and Stevie Nicks.

Susannah said the process left her “exhausted, relieved and full of joy” and commented: “To finally have a concrete product to give to people, after ten years of writing and gigging, is wonderful. To know that they can take it into their hearts and homes, and to get the great feedback from them about all the different reasons for their favourite tracks, just makes me so excited I want to get back into the studio straight away and make the next one! More than anything releasing this record has given me a personal verification that what I’m doing works, that people enjoy it, and that I should keep going...So it’s made me more determined, and very excited about the future.”
